Rape-accused Richmond pastor remains in custody
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The 32-year-old Richmond Farm pastor accused of raping and sexually assaulting four girls from his church will find out next week whether he will spend Christmas behind bars.
The man's bail application concluded in the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court yesterday. The man's attorney,Paul Jorgenson, wrapped up proceedings by calling the State's case extremely weak. He told the court that the case was a setup.
Two affidavits from women claiming to have been offered money to open a case against the pastor were handed up. Jorgenson also handed up a copy of an apparent conversation between two people on social media.
The social media conversation suggests a man asked a woman to help bring down the pastor - offering her R5 000 to do so. He argued that the State only has the word of children.
State prosecutor, Sibongile Ngcobo, told the court again that she is not convinced by the affidavits... adding that any of the pastor's supporters could have written them.
