A northern KZN pastor accused of the rape and sexual assault of a number of children has abandoned his bid for bail.
he 56-year-old made his first appearance in the Nquthu Regional Court yesterday facing five counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault.
The alarm was raised this week after one of the children reported the matter to his mother in Luvisi Village who is then said to have approached other victims before reporting to police.
KZN Social Development says it is alleged that the pastor would lure the children, aged between 9 and 14, to watch cartoons and later play pornographic videos over a period of about a year.
Spokesperson Mhlaba Memela has urged community members who know of other incidents to come forward.
"The MEC encourages the parent that they must be friends with their children and listen to what their chilren say, because it is shocking that it only came out on Sunday. But we what to encourage the community that they come togethr and work with the social workers.
The matter has been postponed to October for further investigations.
