Ramokgopa says plans to secure emergency power
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The country's electricity minister says work is well underway to secure emergency power solutions in efforts to secure national energy supply.
Kgosientsho Ramokgopa gave an update on actions taken to achieve a stable grid on Friday.
He says this will ensure the country has emergency power reserve for at least half a decade.
"This pipeline has grown to 10 000MW. We do expect that the first of these projects will be connected to the grid by the end of this calendar year," he said.
Ramokgopa said resolving the energy crisis is urgent.
"The work is at an advance stage to procure emergency power solutions for a period not more than five years, it's important that it's not more than five years because its an emergency."
