"He is going to institute some investigations with regards to corruption that has happened and hampered the progress of Medupi and Kusile and what really went wrong with the design and construction of those two units and can interrogate any policies that might be a standing block or derailing the progress of recovery," says Katleho Moloi.

President Cyril Ramaphosa signed a proclamation transferring some powers to Kgosientsho Ramokgopa on Friday.

Part of Ramokgopa's function will be to oversee the procurement of new generation capacity to secure electricity supply.

He will also determine types of energy sources for generation and provide for private sector participation.

Moloi, the acting head of the electrical engineering department, says the move will also help with how the country solves its energy-related problems.

"When you discuss some issues with the Energy Minister, he says, but this is the problem of the Minister of Public Enterprises.

"When you talk to the Minister of Public Enterprises, he says it is a problem of the Minister of Energy, so at least now we know exactly who is responsible for locating where the problem of electricity crisis in the country is."
