Ramathuba becomes Limpopo’s first woman premier
The ANC's Dr Phophi Ramathuba was on Friday elected as the new premier of Limpopo by members of the provincial legislature.
She succeeds Stanley Mathabatha, who indicated before the election that he would be standing down as premier.
Ramathuba, who served as the province's MEC for Health, also becomes Limpopo's first woman premier.
The new premier and 63 other members of the provincial legislature were sworn in by the Limpopo Judge President George Phatudi.

"It is my singular honour and a rare privilege to assume this responsibility entrusted upon me by the African National Congress and the people of my beloved province, Limpopo,” Ramathuba said in her acceptance speech.
"I am more than humbled by your faith and the confidence you have shown in me as the first democratically elected female premier of this great province.”
Makoma Makhurupetje and Tebogo Mamorobela were elected speaker and deputy speaker of the Limpopo provincial legislature, respectively.
