ANC's Boyce re-elected as speaker of KZN legislature

The African National Congress' Nontembeko Boyce has been re-elected as the speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature.

She received 41 of the 80 votes.
The MK party's Mervyn Dirks received 39 votes.

The announcement was delayed after some parties asked for a re-vote, claiming the process was not free and fair.
Boyce will now preside over the rest of the sitting on Friday afternoon, during which the deputy speaker, premier, and chief whip will also be elected.

She says members of the legislature must fulfil their constitutional mandate.
"It is not important that we like each other, but we have to work together for the good of the people of this province. I am inviting all of us that we make the House an orderly House that will be respected."
