Ramaphosa won’t involve himself in Zulu royal household battles - Presidency
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Presidency maintains President Cyril
Ramaphosa will not be drawn into the ongoing legal battles involving the Zulu
royal household.
King MisuZulu is expected to be officially recognised by government this Saturday in Durban at a certificate handover ceremony.
A faction of the royal family says the event should be put on hold pending the outcomes of the various court challenges around the late King Zwelithini's will and claims to the throne.
Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya was asked during a briefing on Tuesday about the President's position is on these matters.
"The act requires that when the royal family has made the decision on who ascends to the throne, it conveys that decision to the president via Cogta. In his papers, the president is not fighting any member of the royal family except to defend his process that led to the decision to recognise King Misuzulu," says Magwenya.
"What was in front of the president were records of meetings of the royal family and confirmation of the family's decision."
