Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
President Cyril Ramaphosa says an effective COVID-19 vaccine must be accessible to all.
He made the comments yesterday at the G20 Leaders Summit virtual event, focusing on pandemic preparedness and response.
"I would like to call on G20 countries to assist with the funding shortfall for the access of COVID-19 tools accelerator to ensure this platform is able to deliver on its mandate", Ramaphosa said.
He's also urged G20 leaders and international financial institutions to help African countries rebuild their economies.
"Large funding needs remain necessary to both stave off deep humanitarian crisis and stimulate economic rebirth", he said.
"The IMF should urgently consider the issuing of special drawing rights and for the allocation of these disproportionately to member countries that need the resources most", Ramaphosa said.
