Ramaphosa tests negative for COVID-19

The Presidency says President Cyril Ramaphosa has tested negative for COVID-19.

There was concern after Ramaphosa was seen standing next to ACDP leader Kenneth Meshoe on the steps of the Unions Building this past weekend.


Meshoe had been part of the religious gathering in the Free State, where five of the attendees who are from overseas - were infected. 


Meshoe says he's expecting his results on Thursday .

And, while government has prohibited mass gatherings, the Communications Minister says citizens will still be able to take part in some religious services over Easter.


Stella Ndabeni Abrahams said several companies have come on board to bring services to people's homes.


She's among the cabinet ministers that have been briefing the nation on plans for the coronavirus lockdown.


"Together with the broadcasters, both the SABC and those that are under DStv have agreed that we are going to clear some channels in order to ensure that South African has an Easter Sunday broadcasted and online. Google is our key partner on this one."


"This is meant to enable those sitting in their lounges and those that will be at work to utilize their devices through the platforms that are there."
