Ramaphosa sends condolences to Chad, condemns violence
President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the violence in Chad which has claimed the life of that country’s president Idriss Déby.
Déby died of injuries on Tuesday following clashes with rebels in the north of the country at the weekend.
The announcement came a day after the provisional election results projected, he would win a sixth term in office.
The 68-year-old Deby was one of Africa's longest-serving leaders have spent more than three decades in power.
Sending his condolences to the Republic of Chad, the Presidency said Ramaphosa is concerned about the violence.

“President Ramaphosa has, on behalf of the government and people of South Africa extended his deepest condolences to the fallen President's family as well as the government and people of Chad.
“President Ramaphosa has furthermore expressed the concern of the South African government at developments in the Republic of Chad involving armed groups,” said the Presidency’s Tyrone Seale.
He said President Ramaphosa wants an immediate end to the violence that has plagued Chad.
“We condemn in the strongest terms the violence that has claimed so many lives, including that of President Déby. We call for calm and a cessation of fighting."
