Ramaphosa remains mum on Cele future

President Cyril Ramaphosa has tip-toed around questions on the future of Police Minister Bheki Cele.

Cele has come under fire for failing to address the country's high crime rate, with speculation that his days in the ministry could be numbered.
Ramaphosa answered questions in the National Assembly on Thursday but would only say that the hiring and firing of ministers remain the prerogative of the president.

"The recruitment of 12 000 additional police officers amongst other measures to strengthen the police will help us deter the tide and create safer communities for all.
"Honourable (EFF leader Julius) Malema knows that when the president appoints or releases ministers, he does not consult with the public. It is the president's decision."
