Ramaphosa on improving access to NSFAS
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
Deputy President, Cyril Ramaphosa, says the student financial aid scheme, NSFAS needs to be strengthened to increase funding for poor students but also to improve the repayment rate.
He has been fielding questions in the National Council of Provinces this afternoon where he's told members it was agreed at the recent Higher Education Transformation Summit in Durban that there needs to be transparency on the issue of tuition fees.
Ramaphosa says he's confident about the resolutions reached during the summit, especially in light of the wave of students protests across the country.
''If we all work together - the private sector, government and various organisations including university authorities and the student bodies themselves - we can find solutions. One of the first ports of call is obviously government and the second would be financial institutions and the private sector as a whole,'' he said.
