Ramaphosa hails bravery of men and women in blue

The president has hailed the bravery of the men and women in blue who've died in the line of duty, saying they served their country selflessly.

Cyril Ramaphosa spoke at the annual commemoration day on Sunday in honour of the 33 police officers and reservists who lost their lives between April last year and March this year. "

 

A two-minute silence was also observed before President Ramaphosa led the laying of wreaths at the National Memorial Wall at the Union Buildings.

He said the moment should also serve to mobilise society against the killing of police.

 

"No society can remain silent when criminals have clearly declared war on the police. Our men and women in blue represents the authority in our state and any attack on them is a direct attack on the state but it's also an attack on the people of South Africa.”
