Ramaphosa: CR17 campaign managers did not involve me in fundraising

Cyril Ramaphosa has explained how money was gathered for his CR17 ANC presidential campaign.

He's testifying for the second day before the State Capture Commission.

President Ramaphosa says his campaign managers kept him mostly in the dark about who was donating and how much they were giving to his bid.

"The campaign managers have taken a conscious decision that they will not involve me at all in the fundraising process."

"They have also taken a conscious decision to say they do not want me to even know who would give money to the campaign because they wanted to almost create a wall, that those people who gave money should never really think there is anything they will get in return."

He's also spoken about claims of money being laundered through the CR17 account - apparently by the late Bosasa boss, Gavin Watson.

"Some of the money was particularly given by Mr Watson which went from one account to another and that was his own arrangement. It sounded back to the public protector that it was money laundering."
