Ramaphosa condemns teachers' having relationships with pupils
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
President Cyril Ramaphosa has condemned the behaviour of those accused of sexual impropriety.
In KwaZulu-Natal, a Tongaat Secondary School teacher accused of statutory rape was granted bail in Verulam, on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old allegedly exchanged inappropriate messages with a Grade 11 pupil via Whatsapp.
Delivering his address at SADTU's national conference in Johannesburg, Ramaphosa said the union must take action against those implicated in wrongdoing.
"As educators, your job is that of a parent to the children who come to your schools. You are not suppose to be the lovers of your children who come to the schools," he said.
"We expect that you will be way above these types of things. But at the same time, the law must be allowed to take it's course."
