Ramaphosa cabinet reshuffle must inspire confidence - analyst

A political analyst says the challenges faced by ordinary South Africans need to be top of mind for the president when he decides to make changes to the executive.

Ralph Mathekga has been commenting on the imminent reshuffle of ministers by Cyril Ramaphosa.
"These is a high expectation because of what is happening in government like the electricity crisis, which has affected the economy and again, we just came of Covid where we had the economy affecting households,” Mathekga said.
“People are generally struggling."
Ramaphosa was locked in meetings with senior ANC leaders at the party's headquarters on Monday.
He also met with various organisations, including the SACP and Cosatu.
Last week, ANC secretary general Fikile Mbalula said that the matter would be wrapped up by the end of February.
Mathekga said he president needs to select leaders that will inspire confidence in South Africans.
"We don't need people with instant credibility who are going to begin an instant credibility crisis. The whole purpose of a cabinet reshuffle is to bring fresh energy."
