This comes amid intense speculation on who will be included or excluded, as well as the impact the president's recent ill-health could have had on the timing of the announcement.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya made the announcement during a media briefing on Sunday.

“The president is fully seized and committed to his oath of office and the day-to-day task to lead the nation out of the difficulties we face. This is his stance as he mobilises all of government, civil society and our international partners to ensure that in this year we address load shedding, unemployment, poverty, rising cost of living, crime and corruption."

Pressure has been mounting on the president to fill vacancies in his executive, appoint a new deputy president and reveal the name of the new electricity minister.

There have also been reports that flu prevented the president from making the announcement last week.

“Throughout this week the president has attended to his duties while treating a common cold. You may recall his discomfort was visible during his public appearances as part of the state visit by President Yoweri Museveni of the Republic of Uganda.

“Among the tasks the president undertook this week was continued consultation around forthcoming changes to the national executive,” Magwenya said.
