Raids at KwaMashu and Glebelands hostels yielding results: SAPS

KZN police say recent raids conducted at the troubled KwaMashu and Glebelands hostels have led to a decrease in crime at both hostels in the last few weeks.
The latest multi-unit operation took place on Friday night at the two hostels north and south of Durban respectively. Police spokesperson, Jay Naicker, says over 100 officers from various parts of the country where involved in the blitz.
He says they recovered a number of dangerous weapons and made three arrests at Glebelands while two suspects – one them wanted for rape – were arrested at Kwamashu.
"These operations have been ongoing, especially in Glebelands, for the past two years," he said.
"However in the recent months as we have stepped up deployment there, especially as of last week having permanent deployment of the Public Order Policing Unit officers from the national office we feel like there has been an improvement in the crime level," Naicker said.
