Rabies cases in KZN 'under control'

Agriculture authorities have given an assurance that they are ahead of the rabies curve in KwaZulu-Natal.

A vaccination drive was held in Chatsworth, south of Durban, on Tuesday following a resurgence in cases.
Community members could also bring in their pets for other ailments and spaying.

MEC Super Zuma says although KZN isn't faced with a rabies outbreak, they are keeping a close eye on the numbers, particularly along coastal areas.
"The eThekwini metro, based on the population, is looking at more than 130 000 dogs in the entire eThekwini. There are reported cases at an average of three per month.
"Then we decided to have this campaign because if we sterilise the dogs, it will manage the population so that it does not increase."
