R603 roadworks await green light from Transport
Updated | By Chanelle Lutchman
Management from Crossmoor Transport and Plant say they are waiting for the go-ahead from the Department of Transport before they can complete unfinished work on the R603.
Tarring of an 8km stretch of road between Umbumbulu and Amanzimtoti came to a halt about three months back when workers were intimidated by members of a business association who say the tender should have been awarded to locals in the area.
Crossmoor's Sebastian Doravalo says the department has since got involved and they have reached an agreement with the association.
He says in the meantime, there is 24 hour traffic control on the road to make it easier motorists who've been concerned about the road surface.
''All we can do is to just wait on the go-ahead of the department. Once they have resolved their issues with the business owners association.
''We can do as much as we can with regards to safety and traffic control but it's never a safe environment with regards to road not being completed and traffic having to drive through. Obviously, we are just waiting to get in there and do what we do,'' he said.
