R5 million to upgrade Durban buildings
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
The eThekwini municipality will spend more than R5 million on renovating three buildings in the city.
The executive committee approved a report on behalf of the Department of Public Works - to donate West Point Lodge, Palm Beach Hotel and the Seamans Institute.
This to improve the city's social housing situation.
The municipality's Mandla Nsele says that the donation will go a long way in solving housing problems in the inner city.
“The renovation of these buildings is expected to cost the municipality about R5.5 million to implement,” he says, “This will directly contribute to the improvement of life for the people of eThekwini”.
It is unclear at this stage when the renovations will begin as the report still has to go through council.
