R27m cash injection for eThekwini lifeguard equipment

eThekwini Municipality has set aside R27 million for equipment for lifeguards at all the city's beaches.

Lifeguards at uMdloti have expressed concern about a lack of rescue resources, saying it compromises the safety of beachgoers.

 

These include torpedo and ring buoys. They say they last received rescue equipment in 2018.

 

In a statement to Newswatch, the city said the matter is receiving attention.

It said a tender has been put out for the procurement of the necessary equipment - as well as quadbikes, jet skis and surf rakes.

 

The municipality expects to appoint a service service provider before the end of the financial year.
