MEC Cyril Xaba launched the R2.2-million initiative in the uThungulu District Municipality yesterday.

Xaba says about 100 people are involved in the multi-hectare communal land-based project.

"We are able to fence it off, give them production input, assist them to the point where it becomes a rural enterprise. You recall that in rural areas, agriculture was the backbone of economic development," he said.
