R2.2m agricultural project to benefit rural KZN communities

The KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says creating jobs was one of the main objectives behind the Maize and Beans Production Project in Nkandla in northern KZN.

The KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development says creating jobs was one of the main objectives behind the Maize and Beans Production Project in Nkandla in northern KZN.
MEC Cyril Xaba launched the R2.2-million initiative in the uThungulu District Municipality yesterday.
Xaba says about 100 people are involved in the multi-hectare communal land-based project.
"We are able to fence it off, give them production input, assist them to the point where it becomes a rural enterprise. You recall that in rural areas, agriculture was the backbone of economic development," he said.
