R1bn set aside for Folweni water supply issues
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
eThekwini has set aside almost R1 billion for a repair project to address water supply challenges in Folweni and other areas south of Durban.
The municipality says it's pursuing a short-term solution to assist locals who've been complaining about service delivery issues.
The city says it'll first isolate the eNsimbini Water Reservoir from load shedding and install standby generators at several pump stations at uMlazi 2, Ensimbini and Folweni 2 pumpstations.
Ensimbini will soon receive a feed from Folweni 1 Water Reservoir, instead of the Umlazi 6 Water Reservoir.

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda met with residents during an imbizo in Folweni over the weekend at Folweni Sports Ground on Saturday to discuss service delivery issues in the area.
He said their interventions will include a tie-in from the Isiphingo pipeline to boost the water supply.
"The tie-in that we are doing in the area will also unlock some of the challenges that we faced with in this area. So we will be able to fill the reservoir. That reservoir supplies directly to the area."
