R150 million cash injection expected for Durban economy this weekend
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Durban Tourism says it is expecting a cash injection of around R150 million into the local economy this weekend. Hotels, guesthouses, shopping malls and popular tourist attractions are expected to be hives of activity, as thousands domestic tourists flock to KZN.
Deputy city manager Philip Sithole says that although Durban's beaches remain a major attraction, they have put a number of events into place to create temporary jobs and provide cash flow for unemployed residents.
“We have the Durban Business Fair - which has a street market - including the Durban Fashion Fair,” he says, “But aside from that, we also have the township establishments - like Max's Lifestyle as well as Eyadini Lounge - and they also have their own line ups of entertainment”.
He says the Cell C Sharks taking on the Xerox Golden Lions at Jonsson Kings Park today, will also add “some spice” to the weekend.
