Plans to expand ports in Durban and Richards Bay are going ahead full throttle.

“This forms part of a more than R135 billion investment in the KwaZulu-Natal logistics hub,” the Ports Authority's Bridgette Gasa-Toboti says.
Transnet has approved the project which aims to place KZN at the forefront of international trade.
Gasa-Toboti says they'll be expanding container capacity in Durban to 11.4 million twenty-foot equivalent units.

The Richards Bay port will positioned as a dry bulk port, which will feature a new berth for handling liquefied natural gas - as a cleaner alternative to coal - for power generation.
Gasa-Toboti says some bulk dry terminals and mineral-handling facilities are to be relocated from Durban’s Island View and Maydon Wharf precincts to the north coast.
“We are are incredibly excited to have achieved this incredible feat that has consumed our work over the past nine months, with major job creation. We are talking nothing less than 200 000 jobs that will be created through the expansion of the ports.”
