Queues snake around transport hubs in Durban
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
There are snaking queues at various transport hubs in Durban, as some people scramble to return to their home towns and villages.
The lockdown aimed at slowing the coronavirus infections kicks in in a few hours time.
Newswatch visited several long-distance taxi and bus ranks and spoke to a number of commuters travelling to areas including Jozini, Mandeni and Ndwedwe.
"I sell beadwork and such items in Ndwedwe which I buy in Durban. That's how I survive. I do not know how I will manage as my children only send money once a month so I can buy those onions and tomatoes to eat, and bread. I don't know how I'll survive over this period" said one commuter.

Another commuter said: "We had to stop coming to work just like that. Now we hear that we might not even get paid for the time we will be sitting at home."
