Putin will attend BRICS summit, claims ANC MP
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Preparations for the
upcoming BRICS summit due to be held in South Africa in August have been the
subject of discussions at the international relations portfolio committee in
Parliament.
The possible presence of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has been a source of some consternation.
The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant of arrest for him, accusing him of war crimes over the conflict in Ukraine.
South Africa is a signatory to the Rome Statute and would be obliged to execute the warrant should Putin come here.
But ANC MP Desmond Moela has told the committee the Russian leader won't be detained under any circumstances.
