Public Works won't probe tender awarded to MPL's daughter, for now
Updated | By Nomfundo Ngcobo
The KZN Department of Public Works says for now - it won't be launching a probe into a lease contract awarded to a company owned by a family member of an ANC MPL.
The department says the matter is before The Provincial Treasury's tribunal.
It's been responding to the criticism - after it emerged the company of Thulani Xulu's daughter scored the R184 million tender.
Opposition parties have been calling for an investigation.

It also emerged the company was only three weeks old when the tender was advertised.
Public Works spokesperson, Mbulelo Baloyi says if a company is deemed fit - there are no background checks done before being awarded a contract.
"There is no specification, we look at what is required and we look at what the potential service provider can offer and then we tick in terms of whether he met all the requirements.
"There is no particular document that says we must look into the background of theses service providers or anyone."
