Public warned against inciting violence leading up to elections
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The government is warning the public against inciting violence as we gear up for our general elections in May.
Acting spokesperson of the government, Nomonde Mnukwa, says they have deciphered criminal acts which dictate that inciting violence and sharing inflamed messages are illegal.
"Offenders will then face charges of intimidation and incitement of violence."
It comes after frustrated eThekwini residents blocked roads and damaged infrastructure when their basic services were disrupted
as a result of the three-week-long SAMWU-led municipal strike.

About 20 people were arrested for various offences in connection with community-led protests.
Mnukwa says the law won't pamper those implicated in damaging public infrastructure. " The maximum sentence for such, if you are found guilty is 30 years in imprisonment or an amount not extending 100 million rand."
