Public violence case against UKZN 11 postponed to January 2017
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A group of 11 UKZN PMB students - who were arrested during violent clashes at the institution in September - have made another appearance in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate's Court.

Known as the 'UKZN 11', the group collectively face charges related to public violence, and damage to police and private property - in connection with national Fees Must Fall protests.
In October, seven of the 11 students were denied bail - whilst four were released on R1000 bail each, with conditions attached.

The group - consisting of Chuma Wakeni, Siyathemba Magwaza, Minenhle Sibisi, Ntabankeka Kopedi, Mayibongwe Ngcobo, Mbali Langa, Lindokuhle Hlongwa, Thembeka Mpanza, Nobuhle Shabalala, Siyabonga Mbambo and Samukelisiwe Lubanyana - emerged from among the packed A Court gallery - where a large group of other students had gathered to support them.
The case was postponed to January 27, 2017 - to allow for a Senior Public Prosecutor to decide whether the matter should be escalated to the Regional Court.
The UKZN 11 gathered briefly outside the courthouse, but did not speak to the media - on the advice of their legal representatives.
