Public Service Commission DG placed on precautionary suspension
President Cyril Ramaphosa has placed the director-general of the Public Service Commission, Dovhani Mamphiswana, on precautionary suspension.
This comes after the president was handed a 37-page report detailing alleged improper conduct by Mamphiswana during the filling of a vacancy within the department.
He’s accused of orchestrating the appointment of his mistress at the department.
The report, released earlier this year, recommended that the president institute formal disciplinary action against Mamphiswana.
“The president’s suspension of the director-general does not in any way constitute a judgment on the part of the president,” says the Presidency’s acting spokesperson Tyrone Seale.

“This is a precautionary suspension in terms of the Disciplinary Code and Procedures for Members of the Senior Management Services contained in Chapter 7 of the SMS Handbook for the public service.”
He adds: “The president informed the director-general on Thursday, 06 August 2020 that the suspension, with full pay, takes effect immediately.”
The PSC is tasked with investigating, monitoring, and evaluating the organisation and administration of the Public Service.
