Public servants' union threaten national strike over salary increases
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A national strike could bring government services to a standstill as soon as Friday - should the union representing government workers and the employer fail to agree on a wage adjustment.
The Public Servants Association (PSA) is demanding a salary increase of more than 7 percent for its around 235 000 members.
Government says it's sticking to its plan to freeze the salaries of public servants in a bid to bring the wage bill under control.

The PSA's Claude Naicker says they've given the employer until the end of the week to come back to them.
"If we feel that there is no movement from the employer, we will declare a dispute and the next step in the negotiation process is to embark on an industrial action - all public servants across all spectrums, teachers, nurses, department of home affairs, every public sector department that we have."
