Protests flare up again at UKZN
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
A large contingent of police officers and metro cops is keeping a close watch on the situation at UKZN in Westville.
Violence flared up again when a group of around 120 students ran riot - early this morning - blockading a road with debris.
Student unrest has been ongoing for three weeks with NSFAS funding and registration among the challenges.
SAPS, Metro police and M17 campus security personnel are on standby.
The unrest was centered around the Oval residents, which is where objects like stoves, washing machines, beds and furniture items were flung out of windows.
It's understood that the reason for the early morning demonstration was to take advantage of the security campus shift change.
Further up from the security centre some lectures continued with security personnel deployed there to allow for early reaction.

Security focus is on the residents which is said to house students who were not able to successfully register.
Officials are taking turns patrolling the vicinity.
UKZN says protests action has not brought a halt to its academic programme across all its campuses.
It confirmed that the entrance at Westville campus which was blocked has since been cleared.
