Protestors burn truck near Chesterville, close N2
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Law enforcement closed the N2 north in the vicinity of Chesterville on Tuesday morning following earlier protests.
The road has been closed until further notice.
Durban metro police say this is because of clean-up and recovery operations that need to take place after Monday night's violent protests.
The reason for the protest is unclear. “Last night there were protests there, and then the protestors burn the truck with vehicles,” says metro police spokesperson Boysie Zungu.
He says they're appealing to motorists to avoid the area. “The road is closed. The alternative route, if you are coming from the south coming to Durban, you must use the M4. If you are going to Pinetown or the west direction, you use M7."
