Protesters oppose changes made to party candidate lists
Updated | By Silindelo Masikane
Political parties planning to contest the municipal elections should have submitted the lists containing the names of their candidates to the Independent Electoral Commission.
The deadline for parties who hadn't already handed in their lists was 5pm today.
The Local Government Elections will be held on August 3.
Meanwhile a protest, apparently by unhappy ANC members, was taking place outside the party's national headquarters in Johannesburg where Secretary General Gwede Mantashe had been briefing the media on the candidate lists.
ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa says the protesters are angry about some changes that have been made to party lists.
He's explained that the changes are corrections they have had to make.
"For example, there would be an area where we could pick up on the list that the voting was done on the basis of a block of seats in a manner that tampers with what the IEC says. It tampers with the outcome of a branch. Part of the team's responsibility was to correct this," he said.
