Protesters cause chaos on M4, N3 in Durban

Durban motorists planning to travel on the M4 from the north of Durban heading south towards town might have to find an alternative route.
Protesters - believed to be members of People Against Petrol, Paraffin Price Increases - have gathered near the Umhlanga off-ramp.
These motorists who were travelling on the northbound carriageway spoke to Newswatch about what they saw a short while ago.
"Thirty people across the road are holding up placards, basically the placards say 'stop corruption, stop fuel increases.' They've spread out across the road, they've stopped traffic and the cars are hooting at them," a motorist heading to Umhlanga said.
A man travelling to Ballito says motorists were visibly frustrated.
"There was a little bus on the off-ramp and about 20 to 30 protesters, all dressed in white T-shirts and black pants, and dancing on the road. They blocked the M4 completely," he said.

Yesterday, PAPPI said they were planning on demonstrating at key spots in Durban against next week's expected price hikes at the pumps.
The protests come after Durban Metro Police cleared the scene near Spaghetti Junction when burning tyres were placed on the N3 to Durban split before 6am today.
The police's Parboo Sewpersadh says the culprits were nowhere to be seen.
"Just below the Pavilion shopping centre - we have managed to move the tyres off the roadway and reopened the roadway. However, there were no protesters. Metro Police just found tyres on the roadway burning," Sewpersadh said.
