Professor Nana Poku appointed as UKZN acting VC

The University of KwaZulu-Natal has announced its Acting Vice-Chanchellor.
Professor Nana Poku will assume the role as of Monday, following the resignation of Dr Albert van Jaarsveld.
A political economist by profession, Professor Poku is currently the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and College Head of Law and Management Studies at the University.
He has over 20 years of experience in research on the political economy of Africa’s HIV and AIDS epidemic.
The professor has lead the Commission on HIV/AIDS and Governance in Africa (CHGA) at the Economic Commission for Africa between 2003 and 2006 - a duty tasked by the then UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan.
He's published 16 books, contributed to over 50 publications and the author of more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in globally recognised journals.
Van Jaarsveld will head up the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis - in Austria.
The university's Council has thanked Dr Van Jaarsveld for his leadership during his tenure, saying they welcome Professor Poku to the important responsibility.
