The 19-year-old psychiatric patient was raped, allegedly by another patient, last weekend.

She's since been moved to another facility.

Angry residents protested outside Mahatma Ghandi on Thursday after the young woman's parents said they felt they were being kept in the dark.

Hospital board chair Saroj Govender says she has been informed that the alleged perpetrator is also a psychiatric patient.

She says she can't comment further as the investigation's being handled by a different department.

"Regarding the matter of such nature which is very sensitive and, it's not handled by me. All matters if such is handled by the head of communication."
