Probe into MUT procurement processes
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
Consultants have been brought in to probe the procurement processes at Durban's Mangosuthu University of Technology.
The university council placed six EXCO members, including the vice chancellor Professor Ratale Kgaphola on special leave in January.
They are accused of maladministration at the university, among other things.
There are counter claims that Kgaphola in particular was placed on special leave to allow certain individuals to have control over the university's tendering processes.
Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande yesterday met with the council.
He was told the investigation, to be carried out by Ubuntu Business Advisory and Consulting, would be completed within a month.
The probe will also look into how student accommodation is procured at the institution.
Nzimande says both management and council will also put together a plan on MUT's implementation of the resolutions taken at the higher education summit held in October last year.
"I'm expecting all universities to draw up plans in this regard. I use this opportunity to emphasise that and for council to take active interest in ensuring that the summit resolutions are also implemented in this university as part of taking forward transformation," he said.
