Updated | By Khatija Nxedlana
The bodies of eight people who were murdered on KwaZulu-Natal's south coast in the early hours of this morning have been removed from the crime scene.
The victims, among them four children were hacked to death while they lay asleep at a homestead in Mabheleni.
Social workers have been dispatched to the Mabheleni area on the south coast where eight people were murdered today at a homestead.
Smoke is still billowing from the rondavel that is owned by the Mncwabe family and set alight with the body of an elderly man who was one of the people killed.
It is understood the other seven had all been in the neighbouring house when they were attacked.
It is believed one family member managed to escape and alert other relatives, some of whom arrived from Durban this morning.
Family members are now cleaning the blood off furniture while a small group of community members is sitting outside the house.
Although police say the motive behind the attack is unclear at this stage, it is believed the attack may be linked to a family feud.
