Probe into KZN drownings following heavy rains

KZN police are investigating two separate drownings in the Umgeni River.
Divers recovered an elderly woman's body late yesterday after the river burst its bank in the lower Molweni area - following heavy rainfall this past weekend.
"The search and rescue team from Durban went to Molweni to recover the body seen floating on Umgeni River. Members of the community saw the body floating in the river. Hillcrest police have opened a case for further investigation," The police's Thulani Zwane said.

Zwane says shortly after the woman's body was recovered, police divers were called out to the same area again to try and locate a 45-year-old man - who reportedly slipped and fell into the water while trying to cross a low-level bridge.

"We are also warning people that they must not attempt to cross any river while they are still flooded," he said.
Meanwhile, the body of a 24-year-old man was found yesterday off the Durban beachfront - near the North Beach Pier.
