Officials in Msunduzi say a probe is underway into the partial collapse of a building housing government workers in the Pietermaritzburg CBD.
The incident happened on Tuesday.
The building, which is used by the Department of Education, was evacuated.
"The inspection was done yesterday and the area and roads around were corned off to ensure that no one comes near the building," says the municipality's Ntobeko Mkhize.

"Both the department and private owner have been served with notices.
"So they are currently conducting their own investigations and will be reporting to the municipality in terms of the outcome of their investigations as well as their remedial plans."
