Probe into hijackings involving two Durban Uber drivers
Updated | By Jarryd Subroyen
Police are investigating two hijackings involving local Uber drivers in the past week.
Officers say the two drivers were targeted in and around Durban. In the first case, a driver was shot after being attacked by three suspects when he dropped off a passenger in Greenwood Park, near Durban North.
In the second incident - a driver was held up and had his car taken in Umlazi - south of the city, with the driver unharmed.
KZN police have issued a warning to drivers, urging them to be extra cautious.
Uber South Africa's Samantha Allenberg says they fully support SAPS' investigations but feels they cannot be held responsible.
"In South Africa, there is high levels of crime. It's probably something that is best positioned towards the police and it's their investigation of which Uber makes a very small part of it," she says.
No arrests have been made.
