Probe at Durban North school after 'extremist' material handed out to pupils
KwaZulu-Natal police have confirmed to Newswatch that officers have questioned several people and taken statements at a Durban North boys' school today, after someone came to the school wanting to give a talk to its Muslim Students’ Association.
According to the Witness newspaper, the group of visitors instead got to give a talk to some matric boys at Northwood School yesterday.
It's understood DVDs and pamphlets, said to contain extremist content, were handed out to the pupils - leaving parents worried the visitors were there to possibly recruit for extremist groups such as ISIS.
The Witness is reporting that the DVD contains a talk by a Durban man known as Ahmed Deedat.
It is claimed Deedat had links to former Al-Qaeda leader, Osama Bin Laden.
When Newswatch contacted the school earlier today, none of the authorities were available for comment.
