The National Teachers' Union says it's shocked and saddened by the deaths of 12 school pupils in a fiery crash on Gauteng's West Rand.

The union has called for swift investigations to bring justice to the children and their families.
The Road Traffic Management Corporation has begun a probe into the crash.
A bakkie on Wednesday collided with a school minibus taxi carrying 22 learners in Merafong.
It's understood that the private scholar transport vehicle overturned and caught alight.

The RTMC's Simon Zwane said several pupils were injured.
"Seven school children are in hospital and are being attended to. Investigators will finish the investigation expeditiously.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has also offered his condolences to the victims' families.
"The president also wishes a speedy and full recovery to seven learners who suffered injuries in the incident that involved a scholar transport vehicle," said spokesperson Vincent Magwanya.
