Probe continuing into cause of deadly Waterloo shack fire

eThekwini firefighters are yet to find the cause of a massive fire that gutted several homes, killing one man in Waterloo, north of Durban.
Fighters rushed to the scene after reports of several homes at Ithemba Lama Africa Road had caught fire early Sunday morning.
On arrival, they found residents attempting to extinguish the blaze with buckets of water, but their homes were already engulfed in flames.
Durban North Divisional Commander Bheki Hadebe says they also found the charred remains of a 38-year-old man among the debris.

"Upon arrival, we found about seven informal settlements that were fully engulfed in the fire and we immediately started working by putting the fire out.
"During our firefighting we discovered a body of a male in his late 30s who was inside one of the burning structures."
Verulam SAPS have opened an inquest docket.
