Probe into claims KZN flood victims selling building material

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs officials in KZN are investigating claims that some flood victims in Ndwedwe, north of Durban have been selling the building material supplied to them for relief purposes.

The department says it's disappointed, describing the sale of these items as acts of criminality. 


Spokesperson Senzelwe Mzila says it compromises the integrity of local and provincial government's relief efforts.

He has urged people who have information to go to the police.


"If these reports are true, the department would like to express it's great concern and call upon law enforcement to take stringent measures against such people as this would be a complete waste of resources that are provided by government with the aim of assisting those that are in need."
