PHOTOS: Probe after fire breaks out at Durban hospital
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Firefighters have contained a fire that broke out on the 7th floor of Durban's Addington Hospital.
A mass evacuation was ordered in the facility's paediatric and post-natal units this morning.
eThekwini Fire's Cameron Oakes says - at this stage - it seems a pile of rubble, left near a lift in the stairway, is what caught alight sending clouds of smoke billowing into the sky.
"When we got there, it was fully engulfed. Most of the fire was already contained. We had to prevent it from spreading. We managed to ventilate [the premises] and make sure everyone was evacuated from the building and accounted for. The whole passage was burnt out," Oakes said.

The damage was confined to that passage, Oakes said. Oakes says they're investigating the cause of the blaze.
