Probe after ANC councillor gunned down in KwaNongoma
Updated | By Shaun Ryan
Kwazulu-Natal Police are investigating the death of an ANC councillor who was gunned down in the KwaNongoma area in Zululand.
The party's provincial structures say Thami Nyembe was ambushed yesterday morning while driving in the Masundwini area.
Nyembe died on scene. The 50-year-old's wife was seriously hurt in the attack and taken to hospital.
Police spokesperson Nqobile Gwala says the shooting occurred at about 10am in the morning.
''At this stage no arrest has been made and investigations are continuing and the motive for the killing is still unknown. We are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder,'' she said.
The ANC says it's devastated by the attack. The party's calling on police to leave no stone unturned to bring those responsible to book.
The murdering of councillors seems to be an ongoing issue as Local Government elections are getting closer.
